Birds
Because they can fly great distances, there are many bird species on the island of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten. Some species live here throughout the year and breed on the island, while others are seasonal or occasional migrants. Offshore islands and rocks, such as Creole Rock, provide breeding areas for many sea birds. Due to their relative isolation and lack of introduced predators such as rats and mongoose, they provide a safer nesting area for these birds.
