Common Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus)

The common moorhen is sometimes locally referred to as the water chicken, which is not a surprising nickname for this bird. It is mostly black, with large black feet that are something like those of a chicken. It is easily identified by its yellow-tipped red bill. The red coloration continues up the frontal shield to above eye-level. This specimen was seen in the canal that used to connect the pond surrounding the Grand Case airport to Grand Case Bay.
