Muscovy Duck (Cairina moschata)

This large duck is native to Mexico, Central America and South America, but has been introduced to the Caribbean as well. This specimen may be from either a wild or domestic breed and was seen near the fish pond on the French side of the island. It can easily be identified by its bumpy red and black face. Since these ducks are found nowhere near Moscow, it is hypothesized that they may have been given this name because they were imported by the Muscovy Company.
