Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres)

The typical habitat for the ruddy turnstone in Saint Martin may be beaches, rocky coasts, mud flats or the edges of salt ponds. The individuals pictured below were seen on the beach in the Maho area of the island. These small birds are a common resident throughout the West Indies and are typically seen in small groups. The individuals in the photographs are exhibiting their non-breeding plumage.
